Standard #1 Worthwhile Mathematical Tasks

The Concept sections of Mr. E. Mike's House of Math are based in sound and significant mathematical concepts. Each section provides explanations and practice of the basic fundamentals of each concept. The Applications Section is designed to engage student interest by providing diverse situations that address cultural, gender, and learning style differences. Each application requires the student to use problem solving skills, and higher order thinking skills. Because Mr. E. Mike's House of Math can be used cooperatively by students, communication and explanations of solutions are encouraged. Each application is design to stimulate learning and motive students to pursue greater understanding of the concepts by posing questions to teachers and peers.

The applications provide an opportunity for students to use a variety of tools to reason, make connections, solve problems, and communicate. The Bulletin Board provides a forum for student discourse.

Mr. E. Mike's House of Math incorporates the both the computer and the Internet in the classroom.
